On Saturday, May 4th, B2R Alpharetta and B2R Johns Creek hosted their very first B2R Battle of the Bands in Georgia at Houck’s Grille, located off of Crabapple Road in Roswell. Over 100 attendees watched as our 12 student bands took the stage.

Masters of Ceremonies, Jennifer Gross (Director of B2R Alpharetta) and Andrew Mauro (Director of B2R Johns Creek), kicked off the event by welcoming newly formed bands from both schools to take the stage for their debut performance. Knights of Music, SuwanSythe Cool Kids, Trinity Queens, Else-World, Thunder Heart, and Boom Speaker did not compete in the battle but definitely set the tone for a dazzling event.

The competition was arbitrated by three judges: John Douglass, Lauran Hunt, and Zach Goodfellow. All of which came from very impressive musical backgrounds ranging from playing national tours, producing international works, and expansive teaching careers.

The battle had two major divisions:  Elementary School and Middle/High School.

Elementary School Division bands: Our Favorite Band, Big Kids Walkin’, 9 ¾, and Five Survivors.

Middle/High School Division bands: Crypt and Zero Vision

All bands gave a wonderful show filled with energy, charm, and confidence, however only two bands could take home the top prizes! B2R Alpharetta bands 9 ¾ (Hugh (guitar/voice), Liam (guitar), Jackson (bass), and Isabella (drums)) and Zero Vision (Reese (bass), Kylie (voice), and Alek (guitar)) placed first in their divisions. Runner ups: Big Kids Walkin’ and Crypt.

All of our bands received fantastic feedback and support from the judges, audience, staff and patrons of Houck’s Grille.

One of the judges commented: "I cannot believe these are kids who have only playing together for a matter of months. Just incredible!”

A staff member of Houck’s stated: "This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I wish this was around when I was a child”

On behalf of B2R Alpharetta and B2R Johns Creek, we would like to thank Houck’s Grille for hosting the event, all the parents and patrons who attended this event, and our B2R staff.

CONGRATULATIONS to all of our bands for taking the stage, we are so incredibly proud of you all!

On Monday, March 25th, two of our students, Hugh and Liam R., took the stage for the final round of “Duke's Got Talent,” an annual talent competition hosted by Duke’s Bar & Grill in Milton, GA.

Bach to Rock is so incredibly proud to report the boys came in second place! This competition was open to all kids between the ages of 7 to 17 in the North Atlanta area. Out of 10 participants from various backgrounds, the boys stood out with their rockin’ renditions of "Sweet Home Alabama," "Ain't No Man," and  "Glorious Day."

Bach to Rock staff members were in attendance to show their support and overheard some of the crowd’s reactions to Hugh and Liam's performance. Our favorite quote of the night: “They are only 10 and 11?! WHAT? Who's teaching these kids?!”

The boys are extremely grateful to Bach to Rock and Duke’s Got Talent for the performance opportunity. Hugh and Liam’s family also wish to express their gratitude to Bach to Rock Alpharetta, "Thanks for inspiring the boys to love music and develop their gifts.”

The honor is all ours!

Bach to Rock Music School Helps Enrich Children’s Summers with Music

Bach to Rock Music School Helps Enrich Children’s Summers with Music

Bach to Rock (B2R), America’s music school for students of all ages, is now offering both virtual and in-person summer camps at the majority of its forty-three schools across the United States. Parents will have the option to choose their preferred format. Some schools remain closed for in-person camps, however virtual camps are available.  In March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bach to Rock transitioned all of its schools to remote-only music lessons, but now is able to shift to a combination of online and in-person summer camps as stay-at-home restrictions are lifted by individual states.  Bach to Rock customer surveys indicate that parents want to fill their children’s days with enriching and fun activities, and continuation of music lessons and camps is a priority.

“The summer is a wonderful opportunity for kids to learn how to play a new instrument, form a band, take voice lessons and make positive memories along the way. Summer camps provide a much-needed creative outlet for children, and with thousands of traditional camps unable to operate this year, kids need some joy now more than ever. Bach to Rock is proud that we’ve been able to adapt to help families during this incredibly challenging time,” said Brian Gross, president of Bach to Rock.  Since the addition of virtual learning, Bach to Rock instructors have taught over 70,000 lessons. Parent reviews show extremely high ratings for Bach to Rock’s quick response to the COVID-19 pandemic, their professionalism, and dedication keeping students enjoying and engaged in lessons.

At Bach to Rock summer camps, children can learn to play guitar, piano, ukulele, or drums and also learn to sing, during daily 45-minute to 90-minute sessions for week-long intervals. Options are also available for music production and songwriting.  Bach to Rock is offering small cohort group-based camps once appropriate re-opening phases are announced in each state.   In-person camps will follow Centers for Disease Control and American Camp Association Guidelines pertaining to wearing masks, disinfecting, social distancing, small cohort groupings, and limits on capacity.  Scheduling is based on school location.

Changing the Way Students Learn Music

Bach to Rock is reshaping music education on a national scale by turning solitary, boring music lessons into a group activity that is more like a team sport.  B2R focuses on providing a well-balanced music education because, ultimately, that is what parents are looking for. Students learn the intricacies of music — from theory to how to read music. Bach to Rock is the music school kids would have designed for themselves.  They get to jam with other kids right away and play current hits. The learning is the same, but the enjoyment factor is much higher.

In a fierce competition at the 2019 Bach to Rock Battle of the Bands, 36 bands went head-to-head at City Winery in New York City on Sunday, June 9.

Over 800 proud parents, family members and fans came to support and cheer on students from Bach to Rock Port Washington, Bach to Rock Mamaroneck and Bach to Rock Nanuet.

The groups performed in both the Main Space and The Loft at City Winery and rocked the iconic hotspot.

“The students, who range in age from 7 to 18, and their band coaches worked tirelessly for months to prepare for this tremendous event and I’m beyond proud of all the performers,” said Bach to Rock Port Washington Director Elana Hayden. “While this is a competition, the main point is for the kids to have a great experience, to get to perform in a top New York City venue – and to have fun and feel like a rock star!”

Six seasoned music industry professionals, Carolee Goodgold (Carly Simon), John Miller (Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton), Brandon “Taz” Niederauer (Lady Gaga, Dr. John), Cameron Rasmussen (Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway), Jason Reese (Sal “The Voice” Valentinetti) and Wayne Schuster (Blood, Sweat, and Tears) judged the performances.

Over 150 students performed on stages that have hosted Lou Reed, Suzanne Vega, Joan Osborne, Taj Mahal, Patti Smith, and Buster Poindexter to name a few.

The bands were scored on several criteria including musical ability, technical ability, stage presence, material, creativity, and professionalism. All the competitors study a variety of musical disciplines at Bach to Rock music school, including music theory, instrument instruction, recording arts, performance arts, voice lessons and band coaching.

This is our student of the month: Indica! She has been playing piano for one year now! When she isn't playing music, she enjoys biking and disc golf. A fun fact about Indica is that her name means "night star princess protected by wolves". Her favorite thing about being a part of Bach to Rock is singing with her band Purple Nightmare, as well as playing piano with her mom who also takes lessons here. Congrats Indica!
