B2R Alpharetta Takes Home First Place In 1st Ever Battle Of The Bands!
On Saturday, May 4th, B2R Alpharetta and B2R Johns Creek hosted their very first B2R Battle of the Bands in Georgia at Houck’s Grille, located off of Crabapple Road in Roswell. Over 100 attendees watched as our 12 student bands took the stage.
Masters of Ceremonies, Jennifer Gross (Director of B2R Alpharetta) and Andrew Mauro (Director of B2R Johns Creek), kicked off the event by welcoming newly formed bands from both schools to take the stage for their debut performance. Knights of Music, SuwanSythe Cool Kids, Trinity Queens, Else-World, Thunder Heart, and Boom Speaker did not compete in the battle but definitely set the tone for a dazzling event.
The competition was arbitrated by three judges: John Douglass, Lauran Hunt, and Zach Goodfellow. All of which came from very impressive musical backgrounds ranging from playing national tours, producing international works, and expansive teaching careers.
The battle had two major divisions: Elementary School and Middle/High School.
Elementary School Division bands: Our Favorite Band, Big Kids Walkin’, 9 ¾, and Five Survivors.
Middle/High School Division bands: Crypt and Zero Vision
All bands gave a wonderful show filled with energy, charm, and confidence, however only two bands could take home the top prizes! B2R Alpharetta bands 9 ¾ (Hugh (guitar/voice), Liam (guitar), Jackson (bass), and Isabella (drums)) and Zero Vision (Reese (bass), Kylie (voice), and Alek (guitar)) placed first in their divisions. Runner ups: Big Kids Walkin’ and Crypt.
All of our bands received fantastic feedback and support from the judges, audience, staff and patrons of Houck’s Grille.
One of the judges commented: "I cannot believe these are kids who have only playing together for a matter of months. Just incredible!”
A staff member of Houck’s stated: "This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I wish this was around when I was a child”
On behalf of B2R Alpharetta and B2R Johns Creek, we would like to thank Houck’s Grille for hosting the event, all the parents and patrons who attended this event, and our B2R staff.
CONGRATULATIONS to all of our bands for taking the stage, we are so incredibly proud of you all!
Bach to Rock Alpharetta Students Place in Duke's Got Talent
On Monday, March 25th, two of our students, Hugh and Liam R., took the stage for the final round of “Duke's Got Talent,” an annual talent competition hosted by Duke’s Bar & Grill in Milton, GA.
Bach to Rock is so incredibly proud to report the boys came in second place! This competition was open to all kids between the ages of 7 to 17 in the North Atlanta area. Out of 10 participants from various backgrounds, the boys stood out with their rockin’ renditions of "Sweet Home Alabama," "Ain't No Man," and "Glorious Day."
Bach to Rock staff members were in attendance to show their support and overheard some of the crowd’s reactions to Hugh and Liam's performance. Our favorite quote of the night: “They are only 10 and 11?! WHAT? Who's teaching these kids?!”
The boys are extremely grateful to Bach to Rock and Duke’s Got Talent for the performance opportunity. Hugh and Liam’s family also wish to express their gratitude to Bach to Rock Alpharetta, "Thanks for inspiring the boys to love music and develop their gifts.”
The honor is all ours!

Kylie is currently a level 3 voice student and member of one of our bands, Someday Maybe. Since joining B2R, Kylie has performed in a variety of different venues in the metro Atlanta area. Most Notably, Kylie performed the national anthem for Georgia Tech Tennis Team in 2017 and performed at the American Girl Store for the premiere of their new musically inspired doll, Tenney.

Nationwide, Bach to Rock has instructed over 45,000 aspiring musicians since opening its first school in 2007. The brand delivers a twist on traditional music lessons, offering something that’s akin to team sports with a spirit of creativity and fun to inspire students. “With Bach to Rock, gone are the days of boring and solitary music lessons. Students learn to play today’s hits and jam with other kids from the start. You’ll see students paired up in groups and teams to help ignite the musical energy,” said President of Bach to Rock, Brian Gross. The Wayne school will serve students from Wayne, Pequannock Township, Lincoln Park, Haledon, Pompton Lakes, and Totowa.
Karl Kahofer is the new franchise owner of the Wayne school, and he brings over 20 years of sales and management experience in the healthcare industry to the venture. The father of two daughters, he recently relocated his family to Bergen County. He noticed plenty of sports opportunities but didn’t see a lot of choices for kids with interests other than sports. “I feel it is important that families have a welcoming, family-focused music school option as well,” said Kahofer. “Additionally, there is a lack of fun music education in our school system. My love of music and the importance of boosting the cultural development of today’s children led me to Bach to Rock.”
Bach to Rock Wayne will offer a variety of programs for students of all ages including individual and group lessons in piano, voice, guitar, drum and more; music programs for preschoolers and toddlers; beginning piano for children in grades K-2; along with summer camps and birthday parties. Bach to Rock also offers MyB2R, an online dashboard offering customers real-time access to student progress and more. MyB2R is the only digital service of its kind in the music school industry, and provides the ability to track student advancement, schedule lessons, obtain homework and stream over 300 pre-recorded songs to practice at home.
Changing the Way Students Learn Music
Bach to Rock is reshaping music education on a national scale by turning solitary, boring music lessons into a group activity that is more like a team sport. B2R focuses on providing a well-balanced music education because, ultimately, that is what parents are looking for. Unlike other music school franchises, Bach to Rock has an extensive curriculum. Students learn the intricacies of music — from theory to how to read music. Bach to Rock is the music school kids would have designed for themselves. They get to jam with other kids right away and play current hits. The learning is the same, but the enjoyment factor is much higher.

The groups performed in both the Main Space and The Loft at City Winery and rocked the iconic hotspot.
“The students, who range in age from 7 to 18, and their band coaches worked tirelessly for months to prepare for this tremendous event and I’m beyond proud of all the performers,” said Bach to Rock Port Washington Director Elana Hayden. “While this is a competition, the main point is for the kids to have a great experience, to get to perform in a top New York City venue – and to have fun and feel like a rock star!”
Six seasoned music industry professionals, Carolee Goodgold (Carly Simon), John Miller (Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton), Brandon “Taz” Niederauer (Lady Gaga, Dr. John), Cameron Rasmussen (Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway), Jason Reese (Sal “The Voice” Valentinetti) and Wayne Schuster (Blood, Sweat, and Tears) judged the performances.
Over 150 students performed on stages that have hosted Lou Reed, Suzanne Vega, Joan Osborne, Taj Mahal, Patti Smith, and Buster Poindexter to name a few.
The bands were scored on several criteria including musical ability, technical ability, stage presence, material, creativity, and professionalism. All the competitors study a variety of musical disciplines at Bach to Rock music school, including music theory, instrument instruction, recording arts, performance arts, voice lessons and band coaching.
Featured Student - Indica
This is our student of the month: Indica! She has been playing piano for one year now! When she isn't playing music, she enjoys biking and disc golf. A fun fact about Indica is that her name means "night star princess protected by wolves". Her favorite thing about being a part of Bach to Rock is singing with her band Purple Nightmare, as well as playing piano with her mom who also takes lessons here. Congrats Indica!
Featured Student - Erik S
Erik is a level 2 DJ student who began his journey at Bach to Rock through our DJ and Recording Arts summer camps.
Erik has the longest drive of any of our students commuting all the way from Buffalo. He’s a natural at mixing, mashing and getting the crowd dancing. His instructor, DJ Don (Jack), says “Erik always comes to lessons with tons of enthusiasm ready to learn. You can tell he is very dedicated and works on his DJing at home. He is inspired by the artist Marshmello."
